Product detection and counting – When a product pushes a limit switch, a signal is sent to the control system. With simple PLC ladder logic, the user can count the number of times a product passes a limit switch and display a counter for the operator.

Personnel safety – Limit switches can be used to detect the opening of safety guards to stop and disconnect power to a machine. If the guard is opened during operation, the machine stops. If the guard is opened while the machine is stopped, the limit switch prevents the machine from starting. In both cases, limit switches are used to protect operators from potential injury.

Machine safety – Limit switches can be used to protect mechanical equipment from accidental damage. This includes changeover parts (end effectors), parts that may wear out over time (motor clutches), and parts that may damage other parts (gears, shafts, etc.).

Limit position control – In the automation industry, limit switches are used to precisely control the position and movement of robots, automated assembly lines, packaging machinery, etc. By monitoring and controlling the limit positions of mechanical equipment, limit switches can optimize production processes, reduce human errors, and improve efficiency and product quality.
