Waterproof Push Button Switch

What is a waterproof push button switch?

A waterproof pushbutton switch is an electrical switch designed to work in humid or underwater environments to prevent moisture or liquid from entering the device through the button. These switches are commonly used in marine and outdoor environments where they are frequently exposed to liquids such as rain. Marine grade waterproof push button switch usually refers to a high IP level waterproof push button switch.

Requirements for waterproof push button switches

The requirements for waterproof push button switches include the following points: waterproof level, corrosion resistance, sealing mechanism, durability, and backlighting.

Waterproof rating: Usually expressed as IP (Ingress Protection) rating. IP protection grade is directly proportional to the level of protection. IP consists of two numbers. The first number indicates the dustproof level, and the second number indicates the waterproof level. It is used to evaluate the defense ability of the electrical equipment enclosure against foreign objects (solid and liquid).

Corrosion resistance: Use stainless steel or specially coated housing materials. Suitable for ocean, outdoor and other environments. To maintain product performance even in sunlight, UV resistance is also essential.

Sealing mechanism: Use gaskets or O-rings to increase sealing and prevent water from entering.

Durability: Use sturdy materials to make the housing of the waterproof push button switch, which can withstand harsh environments and resist the effects of vibration and shock on the push button switch. The design of the button needs to be easy to use with gloves and wet hands and also needs to prevent the risk of accidental activation.

Illuminated function: Illuminated buttons make it more convenient to use at night and in low-light environments. This is important for outdoor and ocean scenes.

What are the disadvantages?

Waterproof push button switches are usually more expensive, larger and heavier than regular push button switches. To realize the waterproof function, waterproof materials need to be used. To place small accessories such as sealing rings and waterproof pads, a larger internal space is usually required. In addition, waterproof button switches also need to be certified for waterproof testing, which further increases the cost.
