Momentary Push Button Switch: Applications and Selection

Momentary push button switch

A momentary push button switch is a type of switch designed to be activated for a short period of time. It is usually made of metal or plastic and can be flat or custom designed. When the button is pressed, the circuit is connected, and when the button is released, the circuit is disconnected. Doorbells and camera shutters are common momentary push button switches.

12v momentary push button switch

12v momentary push button switch is the most common momentary push button switch, used to control the opening and closing of 12v low voltage DC circuit. When selecting and installing a 12v momentary push button switch, you need to ensure that the circuit voltage does not exceed the rated voltage range of the switch. Excessive voltage can cause damage to the switch. When designing the circuit, proper power supply filtering and voltage regulation can ensure that the push button switch works stably.

What is the difference between a momentary push button switch and a latching push button switch?

The difference between a momentary pushbutton switch and a latching pushbutton switch lies in function and operation.

Function: Momentary push button switches are suitable for devices that are activated for a short period of time, such as doorbells. Latching push button switches are suitable for devices that are activated for long periods of time, such as light fixtures.

Operation mode: Press and release the momentary button switch, the button will reset, and the circuit will be connected only when the button is pressed. When the latching button switch is pressed and released, the button will remain in its state until the next time the button is pressed, and the button will be reset.

How to wire momentary push button switch?

Wiring method one: Connect the positive pole of the power supply to the load pin of the button switch, connect the other load pin of the button switch to the button switch LED light (+) and connect it to the positive pole of the device, connect the negative pole of the power supply to The push button switches the LED light (-) and the negative terminal of the device. Such wiring will cause the LED light to turn on when the button switch is activated and the device to start, and when the button switch is reset and closed, the LED light will go out and the device to shut down.

Wiring method two: Connect the positive pole of the power supply to the load pin of the button switch and the LED light (+), connect the other load pin to the positive pole of the device, and connect the negative pole of the power supply to the button switch LED light (-) and the negative terminal of the device. Such wiring will keep the button switch LED light on unless the power supply stops or the circuit is aged and damaged.

Application

Momentary push button switches are often used in electronic equipment, vehicles and ships, industrial machinery and medical equipment.

Electronic devices: keys on keyboards, doorbells, buttons in elevators, etc.

Vehicles and ships: vehicle start switches, some button switches on ship control panels, etc.

Industrial machinery: start/stop switches of mechanical equipment, mushroom head style emergency stop switches, some button switches on industrial control panels, etc.

Medical equipment: Push button switches on medical equipment such as monitors and surgical instruments are used to control various functions and operations of the equipment.

Selection of industrial momentary push button switches

When we choose industrial momentary push button switches, we should consider factors such as application environment, button type, button color, button function, and electrical parameters.

Select the appropriate momentary push button switch based on the temperature, humidity and corrosiveness of the application environment.

Choose the appropriate button type according to the application needs, such as round buttons, square buttons, mushroom head buttons and other shapes of momentary push button switches.

Choose the appropriate button color. Red represents danger, green represents operation and safety, and yellow represents warning.

Choose the appropriate button function, whether it is for start/stop, emergency stop, direction and speed control, alarm or counting functions.

Confirm the voltage, current and other electrical parameters of the instantaneous push button switch according to the actual needs of the application scenario.
